This year鈥檚 theme, 鈥淗aemoglobinopathies in Focus: Global Advances, Local Disparities鈥�, highlights the stark contrast between scientific progress and real-world access to care. While global research continues to drive breakthroughs in diagnosis and treatment, many patients, particularly in underserved regions, struggle to access these innovations.
In alignment with our conference鈥檚 overarching goal, centered on 鈥淚mproving the lives of those living with Sickle Cell Disease & Thalassaemia,鈥� our discussions emphasise the critical need for collective action to address these conditions. Despite advancements in therapies, including gene therapies, it is essential to acknowledge persistent systemic inequities in accessing these innovations, particularly within marginalized communities.
As we gather to explore innovative approaches, our priority is to foster collaboration among patient groups, medical professionals, researchers, policymakers, and affected communities to address these challenges. Through this conference, we aim to raise awareness, enhance care accessibility, and drive transformative research initiatives, all with the ultimate goal of ensuring equitable support and an improved quality of life for all individuals impacted by these haemoglobinopathies.
